Mobile device as a Server

Facebook, YouTube, MySpace…Social networking services are booming in the Net and are going beyond Web 2.0. This trend will move to the mobile environment, much more suited to the way we carry out social interactions, anywhere and anytime. Mobile infrastructures and devices are now powerful enough to allow for new business models. The mobile terminal will evolve to become a server and therefore, a mobile user will provide constantly updated information, relevant to others users instantaneous interests and current context.

MUGGES project researches the turn of mobile users into location-aware service prosumers, namely, producers, providers and consumers of contents from the mobile device, in order to benefit from the vast number of potential mobile sources of the right, key information. These contents can be consumed remotely by others users, in a simple way, with only their mobile device

Usage of GNSS technology as a driver of the Mobile location-aware user-generated services.

So, How do we reach this type of distributed, volatile services and their associated knowledge or information?  How do we manage to provide the right service at the right time and location to the end user?

MUGGES project faces and answers these questions designing and trialling the deployment of a set of new innovative social location-aware mobile user-generated services using GNSS-based “Intelligent Tagging” as the key driver for widespread adoption. These user-generated services will be called MUGGES applications or mugglets which will be small applications hosted in the mobile terminal that leverage the experience of the user in terms of location-aware social interaction.

MUGGES will contribute to GALILEO by demonstrating that there is a great mass market potential for LBS in Europe and that the technology is mature enough to deliver real benefits to users.
